While I loathe the concept, the Z1 Zora is prettier than the R36, so I vote for that one.

The Zora loses all of the proportions that make the Corvette so identifiable.
It just isn't a Corvette anymore. The engine has a place, and that's in the front.
I mean, Corvettes are the sports cars you can daily drive and use for all sorts of things. Because they have a trunk. To put things in. This new thing? Where will I pack 5 days of clothes for a long weekend? How well will it be balanced in terms of weight?
It just looks so wrong. This isn't the McLaren P1 we're talking about, this is the Corvette. 62 years in the making.

I like the R36 render better :)

Traitor.

That's exactly the point. It isn't a car for those want a Corvette, it's a car for those who want a supercar.
And allows GM to bitch about how they are taking the fight to the Ford GT.

Hey, I have to call a spade a spade. That R36 is one ugly SoB.
But I would never buy a mid-engine Corvette because it's not actually a Corvette.

Why can't a supercar have the engine in the front?
01/10/2015 at 18:24 |

It can, but not for traditional supercar buyers.

Maybe what the world needs are more non-traditional supercar buyers.
The industry is getting boring.

That's actually what makes it special. People won't label you as one of the Corvette drivers.

MR cars will always be cool. Mostly because you can't buy a Camry, Jetta or Sonic in MR configuration.

But I don't like it. RMR is not for Corvettes. I don't care how many RMR concepts they've built in the past, the car has always come out as FMR and thus it should always be FMR. It doesn't need to be another RMR also-ran.

Gah, stop talking tlike John McCain(or worse, Rick Perry). If they build the MR Corvette Zora, it will complement the FR Stingray, not replace it. And the car will be awesome.
So, as a car enthusiast, you should be happy to have more awesome cars around.
People were skeptical about the jet burner lights too, but when they've seen that in real life this solution is working, they embraced it. The same will happen with the Zora, when people will see all that styling and Aventador levels of performance. For less than the price of the R8? They will be all over the thing.

You are talking about something that isn't inherently superior. Something that's just different. Why would I want America's answer to the R8, 458, Gallardo, 911 etc. to look just like those cars? I wouldn't. I like that we do it differently. And will it complement it? Maybe for a generation, but then the FMR one goes away because it's a Chevrolet and they need to reduce special tooling costs and pick one or the other.
You want to build an RMR car, go ahead. But don't call it a Corvette, because it ain't.

Yes, because that's not how the creator of the Corvette, ever imagined it.
And the Porsche 911 is RR, not MR, plus, it's kinda fun to see automakers doing variations on a good theme, rather than being stuck on purpose with a solution that limit their market market reach.

Porsche is RR, I know, but it has a similar profile to a RMR car: long rear deck, short nose. If it had less rear overhang, it'd look RMR. If anything, though, Porsche refusing to change the 911 to RMR just underlines that there's no point in changing the formula if the traditional one keeps working. They are making hand over fist on the 911, and the 911 is the benchmark against which every other car is measured regardless of price. They do it differently, and that's kinda cool.
Even if RMR is were technically better, my reasons for not wanting an RMR Corvette are not comparable. It's a subjective, intangible thing. I don't care if a car goes faster, is more efficient, etc. if it loses its charm. An RMR Corvette, for me, has zero charm.

I still just don't like that Nissan roof line. Nice ZR1 Zora.
